Summer Alumni Volunteers

Each week of the summer, alumni volunteers come out to camp to provide extra support and help for our summer program. These Legacy Staff play an incredible part in supporting our summer staff team and creating flexibility as we tackle all the needs that come with a summer at camp.

Give a week back. Join our Legacy Staff team this summer.

How can I help?

We are looking for past summer staff who are willing to come back to Lakeview for a week in the trenches, serving in the kitchen, in a cabin, or in other areas around camp. Our goal is to have at least one alumni volunteer at camp each week. There is such great value in having extra support on hand at camp in the summer-it allows us to better handle unexpected needs that arise and makes our staff team stronger as a result. And the campers are the ones that truly benefit from this!

If you don’t have a week free this summer, we also could use your help during the weekends, or for part of the week.

Many people will devote time this summer for a mission trip with their church or other outreach opportunities. We want to encourage you to consider serving a mission a little closer to home. Kids need camp. And camp needs people like you.

What will I be doing?

Being flexible. (Ha ha!) Each week we will have different needs. We often use alumni volunteers to help cover gaps if a summer staffer gets sick or is pulled away unexpectedly. That being said, here are the most common ways that our Legacy Staff serve during their time at camp:

  • Cabin. We have several weeks this summer where we are short on Junior Staff and have a strong need for extra volunteers to join a summer staff counselor in a cabin for the week to provide the needed
  • Kitchen. It takes a LOT of hands working together to feed 200+ campers three meals a day each week. Serving in the kitchen often allows us to rotate kitchen staff to other needed areas.
  • Projects. Some weeks we may not have a specific role for you to fill but instead will have you working on a variety of projects that help keep camp running and make it a better place.
  • Specialty. Some weeks we may have a specific need and role to fill, whether that’s leading crafts in the craft room, serving as a wrangler in the horse barn, or taking pictures and videos in our media role.
  • Weekends. Weekends are a great chance to help in one of our activity areas, work with our Junior Staff, or serve in the kitchen.

How do I sign up?

Option One: If you have some flexibility with your availability this summer and you’re open to volunteering whenever we might need you the most, fill out the Alumni Volunteer Availability Form and we’ll go from there.

Option Two: If you only have a specific week or time that you would be able to volunteer, you can email Frisbee directly at the bottom of this page and let us know when you’d be able to help.

What are your biggest current needs?

You can view our current volunteer needs for the entire summer here. Our goal is to find at least 14 Legacy Staff who are willing to give a week back at camp this summer. We have found there is great value in having extra support on hand even during weeks where we have no specific needs. But in particular, here are some weeks where we already know we could use extra alumni volunteers due to staff or junior staff absences:

  • Week 4 (June 19-24)
  • Week 5 (June 26-July 1)
  • Week 6 (July 3-8)
  • Week 7 (July 10-15)

Frequently Asked Questions

Where will I sleep?
In general, you will be staying in either Quapaw Lodge or the Village Lodge. Depending on the week, we may ask you to share your room with other alumni staff volunteers or summer staffers. If you’re serving in a cabin, plan on staying in that cabin for the week.

Can I bring my family?
Is your spouse also a past Camp Luther summer staffer? If so, please bring ‘em along for the ride! If your situation is a little more complicated than that, reach out to us with the details and we’ll go from there.

Do I get a t-shirt?
Oh yes, you’ll get a t-shirt. And it will be glorious.
