“Weathering the Storm” COVID-19 Relief Initiative

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted Lakeview Ministries strongly, wiping out approximately $800,000 of our normal yearly income. This storm isn’t over yet, either, with significant impacts anticipated for at least the next year.

Camp changes lives. We need your help to sustain this life-changing ministry. We have weathered many storms in our 55 years of existence. Through your donations and action you can help us weather this storm and continue to be a place for people and families to connect, grow in faith, and spend incredible time in God’s creation for years to come.

Our Goal

To generate $400,000 in income by the end of 2020 with the help of our Lakeview family and our network of supporters. This is the amount needed to allow us to survive the drastic loss of income in 2020 and sustain our ability to operate until Summer 2021. We hope to raise a portion of this income through fall guest group rentals, our annual dinner auction, gifts from the Lakeview Foundation, and potential grant applications.  But most importantly this need will be overcome by donations from those who love camp.

Our Need (“The Storm”)

Here are the storms we face due to the COVID-19 pandemic:

Storm #1: Summer Camp programs normally bring in 65% of our TOTAL income for the year. Because of COVID-19 we were unable to run these programs.

Lakeview’s primary ministry is our summer camp program. This program was budgeted to bring in close to $700,000 of income this year. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the majority of this vital, ministry-sustaining income was wiped out. (LEARN MORE)

Storm #2: With the pandemic continuing, no amount of reduced spending or creative programming will make up this shortfall.

Since March, we have drastically reduced our spending and expenses and re-imagined normal camp ministries to allow us to continue serving our Lakeview family. Despite this, our ability to generate income is severely limited, and we have expenses that need to be covered if we want to keep the lights on and continue serving. (LEARN MORE)

Storm #3: Without additional support, we may be forced to take steps that impact camp’s long-term future stability.

Our goal is to not just help camp survive the current crisis, but arrive on the other side in a strong position to continue to provide the ministry and programs people love. As the pandemic continues, however, without additional support we will face hard decisions that could impact the future viability of camp. (LEARN MORE)

We firmly believe that with continued action and strong support from our camp family, we can sustain camp through these storms.

Together We Can Weather This Storm

Ever since 1963 when the idea for a summer camp in southern Indiana was conceived, God has provided camp with individuals who have risen up to support this ministry.

Will you be one of them?

Lives change at camp.

  • Children come here and experience the life-changing love of Christ. They grow to be more complete and whole people and encounter real and deep community.
  • Adults experience life-giving times of rest and encouragement. They are reminded of what is true and real and are strengthened for the journey ahead.
  • Families find a place to make memories, to laugh and to grow together and to love.
  • Teenagers learn what it means to serve in ministry, and what it looks like to lead while following Jesus.

Help us preserve this place for future generations by DONATING today. Together we can weather this storm. And in years to come we will speak of what God has done, and rejoice at camp together.

We aren’t the only LCMS camp struggling with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Lakeview Ministries is a partner camp of the National Lutheran Outdoors Ministry Association (NLOMA), an organization made up of more than 25 Lutheran camps across the country. Help protect ALL LCMS camps by going to LUTHERAN.CAMP and supporting the movement.
