Q & A with Maddie Lantz, Lakeview’s Newest Program Assistant

We’re super excited to introduce our newest Program Assistant: Maddie “Bonsai” Lantz! Maddie has served as a Wrangler at camp as a Summer Staff member for the last two summers, and we’re thrilled she decided to take the plunge and join us as a Program Assistant. Read up on “All Things Maddie” with this quick Q & A:

Q: Why did you decide to become a program assistant?
ML: I’m very introverted, so my first summer on Summer Staff was a challenge. I decided to come back this year, and I did my best to be more outgoing. I was involved in a lot of things. I wanted to continue that experience through the fall, so the program assistant position was a great fit. I told Brandon Hall that I was thinking about it. Word got around, and here I am.

Q: What do you like best about Lakeview?
ML: The people. The staff always makes you feel special and loved. If I’m ever feeling down, I can talk to anyone, and they will lift my spirits. I also love being in nature and seeing everyone come together. All those things make me really happy.

Q: What does the program assistant position mean to you?
ML: This position is important because not only are you teaching other people about God, but you’re also learning something yourself.

Q: What are your goals for this fall?
ML: I want to get stronger in my faith and bring my family to church with me when I go back home. Going to church energizes me. I always feel productive and ready to do anything.

Q: What are your long-term plans?
ML: I want a job where I’m helping people. I’m currently taking my EMT training at nights, and we’ll see where that goes.

Q: What’s something people might not know about you?
ML: Ever since middle school, I’ve been obsessed with the 1980’s. It started with “The Outsiders” movie, then I got the biggest crush on Ralph Macchio. So, I decided to watch “The Karate Kid” and met the cast of “Cobra Kai.” A few weeks later, I met Ralph Macchio. So, I got my name from the movie “The Karate Kid” and my love for the 1980’s. Also, I have been riding horses professionally for 16 years. I have a horse of my own. His name is Reno. We go to shows together. We actually won two State Championships in the year 2015 for two different division classes. We also won a jumping derby in that same year, winning $4,000.
